'ENTERTAINMENT GOSSIP'

SOME NEWLY RELEASED ENTERTAINMENT NEWS IN THE WORLD OF TELEVISION, FILM AND THEATRE.

NETFLIX'S 'WEDNESDAY:

Tim Burton is set to make his TV directing debut with a new series for Netflix, titled 'Wednesday.' Based on the iconic gothic Addams Family character, the dark comedy spin-off series will run for a total of 8 episodes. Each episode has an expected run time of approximately 60 minutes. Known for his quirky and slightly gothic films including 'Edward Scissorhands', 'Sweeney Todd', 'Alice In Wonderland' and 'Corpse Bride', it's likely he will bring his unique style to the upcoming television series.

In a recent announcement, Netflix described the series as a “sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at nevermore academy.” The character Wednesday, a morbid and mysterious young girl, is to be played by Jenny Ortega. Alongside Ortega, the cast includes Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman, who are set to play the parents of Wednesday, Morticia and Gomez Addams. Other cast members appearing on screen will be Jamie McShane, Thora Birch, Gwendoline Christie, and Riki Lindhome. Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, and Joy Sunday.

The series is rumoured to be expected to premiere in late 2022.

'SUPERMARIO BROS' FILM:

Chris Pratt is set to lead the new upcoming Super Mario Bros movie. Produced by Despicable Me studio Illumination, multiple accredited actors have joined the video game adaptation to voice some of the franchise’s most well known characters.

Chris Pratt will voice Mario alongside Charlie Day as his brother, Luigi. Anya Taylor-Joy will play Princess Peach, whilst Jack Black and Seth Rogen lend their voices to Bowser and Donkey Kong.

The film is set to premiere on the 21 December 2022.

'WATERLOO ROAD RETURN':

Series 'Waterloo Road' is due to return to our television screens after 6 years off air.

In 2015 was the last episode of the beloved television show Waterloo Road after ten ongoing series.

The show finished its final series in Greenock, Scotland, with students battling and succeeding to keep Waterloo Road’s doors open. Cameron Roach, Executive Producer, said: “The vital and urgent stories that are playing out in schools across the UK provide incredible and emotionally powerful themes that we’re excited to bring to a new generation of fans. 'Waterloo Road' will continue its reputation for kick-starting, supporting, and enabling careers both in front of and behind the camera, in a truly inclusive way, from our base in Greater Manchester.”

Piers Wenger, Director of BBC Drama stated: “Waterloo Road is the perfect lens through which to explore post-Covid Britain, from the perspective of those who have arguably been affected most: young people in education.” We are thrilled to be returning to this brilliant format – its thrills and spills, unmissable characters and high drama – at a time when audiences across Britain need it most. And to be collaborating with the brilliant Cameron Roach and Wall to Wall on its return.”

The new series of Waterloo Road will be set and made in Greater Manchester. It has not been revealed if any of the former cast members will be returning to the show and the BBC has not yet announced when Waterloo Road will be back on-screens.
